Your Account & The Two Pockets
Meet Hyperliquid, and the two pockets that power your Node.
Your Node trades on Hyperliquid — one of the largest decentralized exchanges in the world. The word decentralized is the whole point: there is no company holding your money. Your account is controlled by your wallet and nobody else’s.
The two pockets
Here’s the one piece of structure worth understanding. Every Hyperliquid account has two internal pockets, like a checking and a savings account at the same bank:
- A Perps pocket — this holds margin for leveraged trades. It powers your Node’s offense.
- A Spot pocket — this holds actual coins. It powers your Node’s defense.
Why you split, and why only you can
When you first deposit USDC, it all lands in the Perps pocket. Your Node wants roughly half of it in the Spot pocket too, so both gears have fuel. Moving it is one tap — the Transfer button — and it’s instant and free. The money never leaves your account; you’re just sliding it between your own two pockets.
Here’s the beautiful part: only the account owner can move money between pockets. That’s a Hyperliquid rule. It’s the exact same rule that guarantees our trade-only key can never move your money anywhere either. The thing that makes the split your job is the thing that makes your funds untouchable.
Key takeaways
- Hyperliquid is decentralized — no company holds your money.
- Your account has a Perps pocket (offense) and a Spot pocket (defense).
- You split ~50/50 once, with one Transfer tap. Only you can — and that’s why you’re safe.
